Storefronts are the answer

West Virginia AG is concerned about Internet lending.  From the story:   

But West Virginians need not go farther than the nearest computer.

Norman Googel, West Virginia assistant attorney general, said this state, having successfully kicked out storefront payday lenders, has been fighting cyber loan sharks for the past five years.

Internet payday lenders argue they are not subject to any state or nation’s laws because their business is conducted in cyberspace.

States with highly regulated storefront lending makes life easier for state AGs.   The regulations are clearer and the ability to enforce the law is absolute.

Selling text books, gold

Times are tough for college students:

Some students are taking advantage of the academic semester’s closing to help bring the holiday cheer to their households.

Junior exercise physiology major Dave Schnell said the Book Exchange would be his first stop for gift money.

“Yeah, I have no money,” he said. “I’m probably going to use the money I get from my textbooks.”

The pressure of gift buying has caused some students to consider their priorities.
