Dems ready to cut off debate?

May 14, 2010 | federal legislation, industry | Comments (0)

From today’s Politico:

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) wants to cut off debate on a Wall Street reform bill as early as Monday with a procedural move that would require 60 votes.

But once he makes that move to head off a filibuster, the fairly peaceful debate over financial reform could turn into a combative partisan showdown on the Senate floor.

Republicans on Thursday mapped out a “to-do” list of essential amendments — provisions they say must be addressed before they can vote to close debate. Meanwhile, Democrats, who also have ideas they would like to see considered, were told to prepare for a Monday cloture deadline, according to a Democratic aide.
