Contradictory instincts

The Las Vegas Sun loves the financial reform bill for this reason:

We face a situation of soaring layoffs caused by the recession and many Americans unable to make mortgage and personal debt payments — with Las Vegas and Nevada generally leading the nation in these areas with our record unemployment, foreclosure and bankruptcy rates.

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (or Agency) will not help with any of these problems.

I simply can’t understand why so many people are completely welcoming the idea of more government regulation and interference. I can hardly think of a situation in which handing our government more power to regulate, has ended well. Why has America lost faith in Americans? I don’t actually want to begin to answer that…

All I can say, is that I still trust MYSELF and OTHER to make their OWN decisions! I thought that was what America is all about.
