While careful to say that the majority of pawnshops in the county operate within the law, the police chief declared that police will focus on those that don’t. By doing so, he said, police hope to stem an outlet for illegal goods.

While most pawn shops are assisting in the fight against property crimes by careful screening and proper reporting of transactions, any pawnbroker knowingly accepting suspect property from a pledger should promptly be investigated and prosecuted accordingly.
