Accusations of sexism

“Good ol’ boys” in Warren’s way?   From Politico

But some of Warren’s supporters see a deeper problem at work against her — in their view, the Treasury Department is a stodgy old boys club poised to blackball Warren from getting the post, in part, because she’s a woman.

Now, they’re trying to turn that argument on its head. The National Organization for Women, liberal activists and some lawmakers are trying to pressure Obama into choosing Warren, by arguing that Warren would provide much-needed balance to an economics team that they say is too male-dominated, like Wall Street itself.

This week?

Lots of people expect the President to name the head of the Bureau of  Consumer Financial Protection this week.    (Notice that I put “Bureau” first?)  That’s actually what it will be called, CFPB.

ACORN loses appeal

Yes, Congress has a right to defund the group.  From the story:

A federal appeals court on Friday threw out a decision that had barred Congress from withholding funds from ACORN, the activist group driven to ruin by scandal and financial woes.

The ruling by the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan reversed a decision by a district court judge in Brooklyn that found Congress had violated the group’s rights by punishing it without a trial.

Congress cut off ACORN’s federal funding last year in response to allegations the group engaged in voter registration fraud and embezzlement and violated the tax-exempt status of some of its affiliates by engaging in partisan political activities.

All aboard

The Warren bandwagon gets bigger.  From the story

Sens. John Kerry (D-Mass.) and Mark Udall (D-Colo.) have now gotten behind the effort. “Elizabeth Warren has proven that she is willing to stand up to Wall Street on behalf of consumers and is the logical choice to lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau,” reads the statement they signed. “If appointed by President Obama, I would vote to confirm Elizabeth Warren to lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.”

This is an ugly tactic

From the story

Earlier in the day, {National People’s Action} also paid a visit to the headquarters of Bank of America. The protesters delivered a letter to Brian Moynihan, the CEO of the humongous financial institution, requesting the bank divest from payday lending institutions and invest more capital into foreclosure prevention programs and small businesses.
